Make Sure You Recycle These Remodeling Materials

If you are working on renovations of your home, you are going to end up with quite a bit of materials leftover. This might include old windows, flooring tiles, or drywall. Some materials should just be thrown in your rented dumpster, while others can actually be recycled. It is good to know which, because you can also request a rented dumpster for recyclable materials.
Flooring Tiles
One of the main areas of your home that could give you recyclable materials is your flooring. If you are installing new flooring and pulling up hardwood flooring, laminate, ceramic, or natural-stone tiles, don't throw them in your regular dumpster. In many cases, these flooring materials can go in a recycling bin. You don't want to fill up local landfills with items that can be repurposed or reused for something else. The only type of floor material you can't recycle is carpeting, though consider if it can be used elsewhere.
Plumbing Pipes
If you are doing some major re-piping in your home, then recycle all of the pipes you pull out. Whether they are made of plastic or metal, you should be able to recycle them. Keep in mind that with copper piping, you might be able to get some good money back for it, helping to pay for some of your renovations. Instead of putting it in a regular recycling dumpster, consider bringing it directly to a recycling center and see if they will give you cash for it.
Windows
Definitely don't throw old windows into your dumpster during a home remodeling project. The window glass can definitely be recycled, as well as frames made of wood or metal. You can separate the materials if you have smaller containers for glass and other materials, or you can just throw them in your recycling dumpster and have it picked up when the renovations are complete.
Concrete
Believe it or not, concrete is often accepted by recycling centers. Call up local recycling businesses to ask if they will take your leftover concrete. That way, if you are pulling up an old patio or concrete driveway, those big chunks of slab aren't going to waste.
